Phnom Krom Marshland is our highly recommended place for a few hours birding in Siem Reap. It is located about 10km south of the town center. This open marshland with paddy fields, ponds, bushes, and grassland, stretches out at the edge of the Great Tonle Sap Lake. It is a great place to find many common bird species, including waterbirds and waders. We aim to see around 40 bird species on a half-day birding trip near Siem Reap, which can be scheduled for the morning or afternoon

Phnom Krom Birds

Phnom Krom Tour

Birding in Siem Reap at Phnom Krom marshland is available all year round and either in the morning (recommended) from 5.30am to 9.30am or in the afternoon from 3 pm to 6.30 pm. Yet generally, the best time for birding in Cambodia is in the dry season from November to early April. The birds are more active during this time when it is dry and cold, and the migratory birds also present. Followings is the half-day birding trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Krom Marshland:

Option#1: Morning Birding Tour

5.30am pick up from your hotel by CBGA English-speaking bird guide and tuk-tuk driver, transfer to Phnom Krom marshland.
5.50 am arrive at the site and explore the area on foot.
9 am head back to tuk-tuk and travel back to Siem Reap
9.30am arrive at your hotel in Siem Reap

Option#2: Afternoon Birding Tour

3 pm pick up from your hotel by CBGA English-speaking bird guide and tuk-tuk driver, transfer to Phnom Krom Marshland.
3.20pm arrive at the site and explore the area on foot.
6 pm head back to tuk-tuk and travel back to Siem Reap
6.30pm arrive at your hotel in Siem Reap

Tour Notes

Our bird guide with our tuk tuk driver will pick you up from your hotel lobby at 5.30am, as early as we can so we get the most of the morning time which is best for the birds and nature. (or 3pm for an afternoon tour).
Please get yourself breakfast from your hotel, or you might want to come back for breakfast later after the tour is finished.
Other things to bring: hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
CBGA is doing our campaign to reduce plastic waste that we will provide drinking water in a big container to refill, so we request you to bring your own water bottle from home or from your hotel.
